Why ESPN is staying home in Australia after Cric ends

ESPN is ending its presence in Australia following a two-week run of programming on ABC’s Seven, with a three-hour ABC2 program to follow.

“We are proud of the work we have done in the lead-up to the Cric and will be returning to Australia as soon as we can,” ESPN said in a statement.

ESPN said the Crave TV show, which has a three hour time slot, would be a “live, localised and in-depth exploration of the stories and experiences of the Australian people” in the coming months.

In 2018, the broadcaster was also slated to air a two hour version of the show on Seven’s The Night Shift, which was due to be aired this year.

The Crave show will be co-produced by the ABC and The Cric, a national news and current affairs channel, the ABC said.
